BAUER HOCKEY

FLAGSHIP STORE WITH INDOOR ICE RINK

Built and designed to deliver an exciting and engaging brand experience with unprecedented personalized service, the Bauer Hockey Flagship Store located in Burlington, MA, takes in-store shopping for hockey equipment and apparel to new heights.  Complete with a 2,500 square foot indoor ice rink, the OWN THE MOMENT Hockey Experience provides hockey enthusiasts a unique "fit, learn and experience" process that matches players of all levels with the right Bauer equipment for their game and style of play.

THERE'S NO I-BEAM IN TEAM

This project was a collaboration between Toronto based Perennial Inc., New Hampshire HQ Bauer Hockey, Upland Architects and Norton based GC, MJ Development.  An aggressive schedule with a turnover date three months before opening was needed to merchandise, SKU and train.  That left very little time to finalize a design and construct the project.  Upland worked diligently to interpret the design intent and moved quickly to obtain permits for the project including entitlements required for the ice rink.  Working closely and creatively with the GC on this fit-up of a former CVS, the team was able to keep infrastructure upgrades at a bare minimum including avoiding structural upgrades to support the rink's dehumidification unit.

SCORING A HAT TRICK

Ice hockey is a tough sport, and so is retail design.  But in true hockey fashion, Bauer opened on-time and on-budget to hold an on-ice, pre-game ceremony. An event complete with famed Boston Bruins legend Rene Rancourt singing the national anthem alongside the Burlington Fire Department Honor Guard and a ceremonial puck drop with Eichel, Hayes, Messier and young hockey players from the local area.  Upland and the rest of the team advanced to the next series, completing a hat trick of new retail locations in Minneapolis and Chicago and winning A.R.E. Design Awards in three different categories, taking home the Hardline Specialty Store 7,501-25,000 sq. ft. Gold Award, the Visual Presentation Award, and the Lighting Award.
