Dana Barros Basketball Club
Leaving it all on the court.
Upland Architects reimagined a former 35,000-square-foot car dealership into the Dana Barros Basketball Club—a premier basketball and training facility serving athletes across southeastern Massachusetts. Working in collaboration with Hanes Contracting Group, the design/build renovation included a 5,000-square-foot addition (by pre-engineered building consultant) to accommodate five regulation basketball courts, administrative offices, concession stands, restroom and changing facilities, and flexible event space.
The design prioritizes high-performance finishes and equipment throughout, including state-of-the-art sports flooring, professional scoreboards, integrated video streaming, and full climate control. To elevate the facility’s curb appeal and identity, we also designed a full façade reconstruction, featuring a striking 27-foot-high, steel-framed vestibule and bold exterior branding that gives the club a strong and unmistakable presence.
The facility reflects the vision of its namesake, Dana Barros—a Boston native, NBA All-Star, and lifelong mentor. A standout at Xaverian Brothers High School and Boston College, Dana went on to play 14 seasons in the NBA, earning accolades such as the 1995 Most Improved Player and an All-Star selection. Since retiring, he has remained deeply involved in youth development and the local basketball community.
The Dana Barros Basketball Club stands as a physical extension of Dana's commitment to giving back—creating a space where young athletes can grow, compete, and be inspired by one of Massachusetts’ most accomplished and dedicated sports figures.
