Rutherford County EMS #1 Headquarters
Smart space, stronger service.
Upland Architects was engaged by Rutherford County in 2022 to convert an existing 6,080-square-foot EMS station into the new EMS Headquarters. Led by Mark Patterson, the project addressed the County’s need for expanded administrative space to support its growing emergency medical services.
While the original program called for an additional 1,500 square feet, the design team strategically maximized the existing
footprint and improved internal efficiencies, reducing the addition to just 312 square feet—bringing meaningful cost savings to the County.
Maintaining continuity of service was a key priority. In collaboration with an experienced contractor, Upland Architects coordinated a tightly managed construction schedule that limited facility closure to just five months. During that time, the entire interior—excluding the apparatus bays—was completely gutted and remodeled to meet the County’s current and future needs.
The resulting headquarters delivers a streamlined, modern workspace that enhances operational effectiveness while reflecting the County’s commitment to responsible investment and public safety infrastructure.
